Our History
In the spring of 1983 several families living in Southern Maine and members of Dover Baptist Church in neighboring New Hampshire expected to attend a routine Sunday morning service. Rev. Stanley Rockafellow, with the Conservative Baptist Home Missions Society was the guest speaker. The Rockafellows were completing the establishment of their 4th new church in New Hampshire and were waiting for God to lead them to their next project. Throughout church that day God was calling the Southern Maine families to the exciting work of starting a new church.
They expressed their interest and on May 24th several families from southern Maine had their first meeting with Stan and Donna Rockafellow. From that time on, God has continued to open doors and bless us as we serve Him. Housing was quickly found for the Rockafellow family and a meeting place became available in the Eliot Grange Hall on State Road. EBC was established under the Conservative Baptist Home Missions Society. 
With their help Rev. Rockafellow became Pastor Stan and a plan was implemented to become self-supporting within three years. Even before the first service additional families began to join and on September 4, 1983 Eliot Baptist officially opened its doors with 84 people in attendance.
The families God sent had many gifts and the church immediately began ministering as God rose up workers. Leadership arose and a constitution was written, accepted and approved by the church body on January 6, 1985. In the years since that original constitution, it has gone through very little revision and has been shared with many other fellowships.
In 1987 we purchased our present property on Route 236 in Eliot. That same year the congregation asked Pastor Stan to remain as Senior Pastor and he accepted the call. We broke ground on September 9, 1987 and held our first service in our new building on October 16, 1988. The new church was dedicated during a special service on December 3, 1988. 
In faith, an expansion of the sanctuary, fellowship hall and additional classrooms were planned and finances were raised in 1994. Construction was completed in the early spring of 1995. In 1997 the property adjacent to the church, a small house on about 1-3/4 acres, became available and the church again raised the financing to make this purchase. In the fall of 2001 we completed a foyer expansion with a Welcome Center. Two offices, a cry room and mens and ladies bathrooms were also added along with a new classroom and storage space downstairs.
As we have grown in numbers, our vision has grown. In the fall of 2005, we broke ground on additional classrooms and a gym. The project was open and dedicated in December of 2006. Once again, the body pulled together to finance the project and our people formed work crews that gave time week after week to do the construction. The church building is alive and active seven days a week with ministries, fellowships and outreach. It was built by the people of EBC and made possible by God our gracious Father.
Pastor Stan Rockafellow has remained as our Senior Pastor and in May of 2000 his youngest son, Pastor Nathan Rockafellow joined our fellowship. In July of 2001 Pastor Joel Beers joined the pastoral team. Most recently, in 2006 Lelia LaPlante was brought on as director of Ladies Ministries.
